Facts About Being Overweight – Important Facts You Should Know About Being Overweight!
Unfortunately, being overweight just a few kilos can impact our health and well being. I personally have reached the point where I just have to do something about my problem. The reason? The latest facts about being overweight are absolutely frightening!
So what are the facts about being overweight that should be causing us so much concern? To share the facts that have really worried me I thought I would list them here:
1. 64% of people in the US are overweight
2. 48 percent of people in Europe are overweight
3. 27% of Americans are classified as obese
4. Obesity cost an estimated $75 billion in 2003 because of its long and expensive treatment
5. 300 million people worldwide are obese
6. 750 million people worldwide are overweight
7. The weight loss market is forecast to hit $61 Billion in this year (2008) alone
8. 400,000 deaths each year may be attributed to obesity
I think its the last one on my list of facts about being overweight that has got to me the most. I don’t want to cut my life short because I haven’t eaten properly or exercised enough. I know I am almost 50 pounds too heavy, and that I don’t exercise anywhere near enough (well not at all really!) The facts about being overweight have finally hit home. If I want to see my children grow up and if I want to stay active and mobile I must do something about my weight now and not keep putting it off.
Anyway, I have made a beginning on this (much to the delight of my husband and family). As well as researching the facts on being overweight I have also researched about diet plans and what the latest facts are about weight loss. It seems that the inescapable truth is that there is no easy fix! It is going to take a combination of healthy diet and a regular exercise routine to get in shape. It seems that the most successful dieters are the people who take this approach. They lose a lot of weight and it also stays away. Luckily, one of the other facts about being overweight that I didn’t mention above is that on a healthy diet plan, people who are overweight usually observe a significant amount of weight loss that is fat and not all water over the first two weeks of the plan. Bingo!
By the way, I also found out that:
1. diet pills do not keep weight off in the long term
2. Hollywood and fad diets usually only lose water from your system and as soon as you start eating again you gain the ‘lost’ weight back
3. expensive pre packaged food only benefit the companies who make them.(you need a diet where you are responsible for knowing what you are eating and how to prepare it)
4. expensive gym equipment builds muscle but without a proper eating plan you will not remove the fat above the muscles.
Daunting isn’t it? No wonder the majority of overweight people (of which I certainly admit I am one) give up and make no changes at all. Unfortunately, the facts about being overweight won’t let us keep thinking like that if we want a healthy, long and happy life.
I’m going to make a change and start a healthy weight loss program today!. How about you? Have the facts about being overweight motivated you too?
